The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is an independent, not-for-profit think tank on Canada’s relations with Asia. It was created by an Act of Parliament in 1984 and is based in Vancouver. The foundation serves as the leading think tank focused on Canada’s trans-Pacific relations, and brings together people and knowledge to provide current and comprehensive research, analysis and information. The organization conducts research on economic, security, political and social issues, and promotes informed decision-making in the Canadian public, private and non-governmental sectors.

The Asia Pacific Foundation encourages informed discussion about Canada’s relationships with Asian nations by offering a daily news service, research reports and editorials, and conducts surveys and national opinion polls. It provides grants to support policy research and to create greater capacity of Asia Pacific practitioners. The foundation also identifies gaps in Canadians’ knowledge of issues that affect the country’s relationships with Asia, and works to fill those gaps and raise awareness through research and analysis, publications, public roundtables and community outreach. The foundation is currently leading a Canada-wide initiative called the National Conversation on Asia to get Canadians thinking, talking and acting on Canada-Asia relations.

Funding for the foundation comes mainly from the proceeds of an endowment from the Government of Canada and from corporate and private donors. Project funding is provided by corporate funders and federal and provincial government agencies.
